Thirty years of progress
The 10th International Congress in 2007 will mark thirty years of progress
in the development of biotechnology for the pulp and paper industry. In that
time, we have seen the development of enzyme processes for pulp bleach enhancement,
deinking, pitch removal and fibrilation, microbial technologies for decolorization
of effluents and biopulping to reduce the use of chemicals and energy.
With the advent of whold genome sequencing, we now have much more knowledge
and many more tools for wood and fiber processing. Genetic modification of
lignin structures and alteration of polysaccharide syntheses are now on the
horizon. By attending this congress you will be able to meet and hear experts
recognized internationally for their research excellence and industrial experience.
In addition to its traditional emphasis on microbial and biochemical technologies,
this congress will feature advances in plant biotechnologies critical to
the field and it will feature sessions to highlight industrial applications
in fiber processing, plant geneomics, biorefining and bioconversion.

Timetable for paper submission
A general call for abstracts and lecture proposals was issued on
June 28, 2006. The deadline for abstract submission has past.
Invited speakers and poster presentations
Invitations for Plenary Lecturers and Symposium
Speakers were sent
out in the fall and winter of 2006 and acceptance notices for oral and
poster presentations were sent out in January 2007. Please see the Timetable for
additional information.
Publication of abstracts and proceedings
The organizers will publish hardcopies of extended abstracts, which will
be available at the time of the conference. Authors making oral presentations
and papers in other selected topic areas will be invited
to submit summary reviews, research papers or extended abstracts for publication
in a special issue of Enzyme and Microbial Technology.
Industrial sponsorship
The conference organizers welcome industrial sponsorship of special
events and symposia. Benefits of sponsorship will include displays
in the main venue and acknowledgement in all brochures, websites and conference
materials
Scientific sessions
Scientific session will include Plenary Lectures by international leaders
in each of the major topic areas, Symposia with invited speakers, Oral
Sessions with speakers selected from abstract submissions, Poster sessions
and many opportunites for informal discussion.
Social activities
June is a wonderful time to visit Madison, Wisconsin. The city and surrounding
area includes many lakes, rivers and natural areas. Social
activities will include a banquet, a golf outing and an evening of dinner
and theatre under the stars at Spring Green. Tours of the city and surrounding
areas including Wisconsin Dells, Taliessen, House on the Rock
