Abstract Submission Guidelines
Submission
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the program committee to determine which session is most appropriate for presentation. Authors will be informed of the committee decisions after January 31, 2007.
Abstract Format
Accepted abstracts for oral and poster presentations will be published in the Program and Abstracts booklet. Please read the instructions carefully before preparing your abstract since will be published exactly as it is received. Abstracts should be approximately 250 words; extended abstracts should not exceed 1000 words or two printed pages. Abstracts not conforming to the guidelines or fitting into the designated space will be returned to the author. No more than three submissions per communicating author will be considered for presentation.
Submit abstracts in Microsoft Word (.doc) Word Perfect (.wpd) or Acrobat (.pdf) format. Use Times New Roman, 12 pt as your text font and Arial bold for the title and subheadings. Use Times New Roman 10 pt for footnotes. Symbols may be used as necessary for Greek letters and figure legends. Type the body of the abstract single-spaced using 6 pt spacing before each paragraph.
Author(s) and affiliations
Type author(s) names in bold. Use initials for given names and full surnames. Underline the name of the presenting author. Use a superscripted numeral to indicate affiliations of multiple authors. Affiliations should follow the last author’s name. Omit department, division, etc. but include the email address for the communicating author.
Abstract Content
The title should be brief but informative and should not be repeated in the abstract. Prepare a concise abstract of approximately 250 words. The abstract should include the problem under investigation, the methods used, the essential results and the major conclusions. Any information not discussed in the presentation should not be included in the abstract. Scientific names for organisms and chemicals must be written out in full when first used. Abbreviations in parentheses should follow the first mention of a term and may be used thereafter.
The CBE Style Manual for Biological Editors (6th Edition) may be used as a writing guideline. No corrections will be made on abstracts. Improperly prepared abstracts will be returned to the author for correction.
Extended abstracts
Prior to or following evaluation for oral presentation, authors will have the option of modifying their submission into an extended abstract format. Extended abstracts should not exceed 1000 words or 2 pages (US letter, 1” or 2.5 cm margins), which should include all figures and references. Extended abstracts should be divided by subheadings appropriate to the material. (e.g. Introduction, Results, Discussion, References). Please embed all figures in the text and use Times New Roman, 10 pt for references. Use a spell check program prior to submission
